Cold WarsA period that was ruled by competition, conflict and tension between two blocks of nations namely the Soviet Union and its allies and the United States and its allies was the period of cold war. The cold war period stretched from the middle of the 1940s and continued till early part of 1990s. In this period of intense rivalry among these nation both being superpowers the battle for supremacy was fought in different arenas- the race for nuclear arms, advancements in technology , coalitions among the military, huge expenditure on defense building , espionage , ideology , advancements in industrial and military upfront, psychology , a race in space and wars fought by proxies.
Bernard Baruch of America had in the year 1947 had used the word cold war for the first time. He was an advisor of Truman the president, though he also advised Walter Lipmann briefing them on the tension creeping among the two allies of wartimes before. The aspiration of the Russians of expansion was perceived by the west on account of the 1917 revolution of the communist. Although between 1919 and 1939 the development of the communist was not that great still it paved way for misgivings. In 1941 when Hitler made his way to Russia it led to his becoming an ally of the US and even with the Great Britain but the element of mistrust still prevailed. The powers of the west and the Soviet Union had broken apart when the grand alliance had fallen and faded. Though the Nazi Germany had its wall against both the soviets and the Americans the reason of conflict was the difference in the opinion of these two with regard to the world that would be after the world war and this difference was even before the second war of the world had ended.
