Cold WarsOn 18th July 1985, Joseph Stalin & Harry S.Truman met at the conference of Potsdam . At the conference severe issues were raised for further growth of Eastern Europe & Germany. Harry S. Truman, the new United States president represented at the conference without knowing Roosevelt's plan for after war commitment to the Soviet union, and their own external and army strategies.
So to begin with he relied on several guides like Henry L. Stimson, the secretary of war, Henry L. Stimson, James F. Byrnes, the secretary of state & the Soviet diplomat Averell Harriman.
It drew tougher boundary for Moscow. They were in favor of mutual aid with the Soviet and wanted to integrate the foreign operation. The atomic attack of Nagasaki & Hiroshima left Soviet in mistrust. Stalin opposed United States when it offered little power in Japan. After this the collaboration broke letting them follow their own strategies.
George F. Kennan wrote "Long Telegram" in February 1946 expressing the injustice towards Soviets. It revealed that Soviet followed traditional Russian policy & Marxist beliefs; they were also ambitious & fearful from their birth, which was threatening allies & US. Afterward he articulated the fundamental behind following "containment" strategy against Soviet.
Few weeks later Winston Churchill, the former British prime minister gave his renowned speech of Iron Curtain in Fulton unfolding the difference between Soviet colonies & rest of Europe. He wanted to form Anglo-American collaboration in opposition of Soviet forming "iron curtain" from Stettin to Trieste.
On 6th September, 1946 James F. Byrnes delivered a speech saying that United States wanted to continue military operations in Europe & wanted to win the heart Germans, so it was a mind battle.
