Cold Wars
In the view of Gaddis neither of the two nations was responsible for the initiation of the conflict but of late he was of the opinion that it is the soviets that should be more accountable than the Americans for the continuous problems.
According to Gaddis the tradition, the geography and the demography had not determined the outcome rather they have played a part in bringing this outcome. Gaddis continues in saying that to Stalin "the politics of the world was a mere extension of the politics of the soviets which had its own roots in the private environment of Stalin that is to say a sun game which would lead all except one deprived of security".
The cold war was able to catch the attention of the United Nations due to the different arenas in which it had been fought such as Latin America, the Far East, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and even space was not spared in this battle. Much of the thanks to the reforms introduced by soviet's Mikhail Gorbachev in the later parts of 1980 the cold war came to an end. It was not only due to Gorbachev's reforms that played a part in bringing an end to the cold war, as both glasnost and perestroika also contributed in bringing the cold war to an end. Consequently in the year 1991 the Soviet Union gave up their power in the Eastern Europe and decided to dissolve.
Thus the cold war period saw a rivalry between two superpowers and different countries took different stands and the period was marked by significant economic tensions, growing suspicions, greater imbalances in trade and commerce. It also called for a union of all the nations of the world to resolve together amongst themselves peace and provide security to the people of this world who were otherwise threatened by mass destruction due to difference in opinion between two countries – United States and the Soviet Union.
