Cold WarsThe Shifting of power changed the vibrancy of cold war. The Truman administration increased the military budget to four times and Eisenhower left the fight for becoming supreme nuclear power but he wanted to continue to take part in Cold War. Stalin died in March leaving the communists to be lead by Nikita Khrushchev.
Dulles, the secretary of state came up with the new suppression strategy which relied on usage of nuclear armaments against its opposition. He followed the strategy of "massive retaliation," from United States against any strong move of Soviet.
After Stalin's death the tension of Cold War were relieved a bit. The United States stayed in West Germany and Soviet occupied Eastern Europe. With the Warsaw pact the Soviet formed collaboration troop with Eastern European communists in 1955. In 1961 the 'Berlin Wall' was raised to prevent movement from east to West Berlin.
Joseph McCarthy, the United States senator came up as indent supporter of Cold War. He blamed Soviet for conspiring against United States leading to great political drama.
In 1950s, third world was a major arena for cold war. The emergence of Europe as supreme power after the 2nd World War filled the gap of its Cold War allies. Freeing the colonies was a tough procedure & NATO suffered a lot.
Democratic movements in many countries were influential. The United States removed the opposition government from third world using CIA.
Many Asian, African & Latin American were asked to choose between East & West. Third world countries held the Bandung conference in 1955, which were not willing to be a part of Cold War. Later the independent states met in New York in 1960.
