The Second Cold War (1979-1985)
Samantha Smith an American aged ten years shared her sense of impending danger of a probable nuclear war with the soviet head Yuri Andropov through her letter in November, 1989 requesting him to restore peace. Beyond the expectation, he himself sent her an offer to come to their country to which she responded positively. The call to Samantha was some of the important moves in small period (1982-1984) of leadership of Andropov to improve the weak relationship shared by United States & Soviet. It seems to be front page of her book featuring the events.
Few historians called the event as 'Second Cold War' in relation to reformation of Cold War situations in beginning of 1980s.Jimmy Carter lost to Ronald Reagan in 1980, thanks to increased defense budget and dealings with Soviet all over. Ronald Reagan & inexperienced British Prime minister condemned the ideologies of Soviet Union which competed to be the most unfortunate days of cold war in the end of 1940s.
Reagan intensified the cold war moving opposite to the détente policy which started in 1979 after the Soviet took over Afghanistan. Reagan officials executed new policies against the Soviet reawakening the B-1 Bomber plan dubbed earlier by Carter and started producing the MX "Peacekeeper" missile. Reagan overlooked the use of the Pershing II missile in West Germany by NATO as against the effectiveness of Soviet's SS-20. Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), a disputed program of defending was offered by Reagan. The project would use the systems based on Universe as an attempt to save United States from nuclear missiles. Reagan thought that the defensive approach would lessen the tensions of nuclear war, but before it worked SDI was dubbed by 'STAR WARS'. In fact it was seen that no direct engagement had been in force between the military of the two super powers instead both had build up huge forces of military over a long period of time and battles in politics also continued to get support from other parts of the world which also led to formation of allied nations as well as the nations of the satellite.
